Work began with Scotland’s Rural College through award of contract for installing one electrolyser on a JCB tractor used by local farmer in Aberdeenshire who participated in the Farming for a Better Climate Initiative created by the Scottish Government in 2017.
The project was overseen by the Rural College and was very successful, including fuel savings of up to 29% and an emissions reduction of up to 80%. The farmer himself claimed that the fuel use of his JCB dropped from 6.84 litres per hour to 5.92 litres per hour, which equates to 13.5% fuel saving though it is likely for it to rise to 25% with the new versions of the electrolyser.
He also claims that the JCB has increased usable power meaning he spends less time working in the field.
